Sharp Ready To Go For Ginetta GT Supercup Title

After undoubtedly his most successful year in the sport Camberley’s Tom Sharp has announced that he will return to the Ginetta GT Supercup for 2012 with family team IDL Racing. The Ginetta GT Supercup is one of the support series for the British Touring Car Championship (BTCC)

Sharp will also be looking to compete in the British GT Championship in the GT3 class at selected rounds.

In 2011 Sharp managed to win more races, in the Ginetta GT Supercup, than anyone and was consistently a front-runner in the series.  Despite taking an outstanding 9 overall wins Sharp narrowly missed out on the series title by just 11 points. As the new season looms ever closer Sharp has every reason to be confident for the new racing year.

“I never expected to have the run of form that we did and well be looking to take the title this year. This season has been great for us and to be named by Autosport magazine as the best driver in the Supercup and the 8th best national driver of 2011 means a lot, ” Sharp explained. “The next few months are going to be quite busy for us as we take delivery of a new car and get some testing miles under our belt.”

The season starts off at the historic Kent circuit of Brands Hatch on the Indy configuration over the weekend of 31st March – 1st April 2012, with 3 races over the two days.
